Where we went beyond implementation
- First establish what the migration needs to solve
- The choice of Shopware followed an analysis of the existing WooCommerce setup. Product administration, orders and the daily management environment mattered alongside the appearance of the store.
- Look beyond installing the platform
- The migration also included hosting, Mollie payments and technical search visibility. The new store needed to fit into the wider sales and administration workflow.
- Treat the management team as users too
- The administration interface formed part of the platform decision. The breeder needed to manage products and orders in an environment designed for commerce, so daily work after launch helped shape the solution.
The duration and results below refer to the engagement described.
Project overview
Sluierstaart & Labyrintvis Kwekerij used an outdated WooCommerce installation that no longer suited its growing aquarium business. A specialist retailer needs dependable product management, payments and day-to-day administration.
The project involved a complete migration to Shopware, with new hosting and an updated management interface. The aim was to improve the platform's maintainability and the experience for both customers and the breeder's team.
The challenge: an outdated installation
The existing WordPress and WooCommerce setup had become difficult to maintain and did not meet the requirements of the business. Its outdated configuration created security concerns and limited the options for modern payment processing.
The work therefore addressed both the software platform and its surrounding infrastructure, rather than treating the migration as a product import alone.
Choosing Shopware
Following an assessment, Shopware was selected as the new e-commerce platform. Its product management, checkout and administration capabilities suited the needs identified for this retailer.
The team needed an interface organised around e-commerce tasks, making it easier to manage products and orders without relying on an ageing configuration.
The migration process
The migration was completed within one month and included more than fifty aquarium products. It covered product data, a new hosting environment and payment integration.
Preserving SEO value and minimising disruption were part of the migration work so that online sales could continue through the transition.
Technical improvements
Security and maintenance
Replacing the outdated installation addressed the maintenance and security concerns associated with its existing configuration. The new platform provided a current basis for updates and ongoing administration.
Payment processing
Mollie was integrated as the payment service provider. This introduced modern payment options and an updated checkout experience in place of the previous payment setup.
Day-to-day management
The Shopware administration interface gave the team a clearer way to manage products, process orders and access reports. Reducing complexity in these recurring tasks was an important part of the project.
Business impact
The original case study describes improvements to performance, management efficiency and the customer experience. The updated platform provided a more suitable basis for the retailer's future development.
Customer feedback was positive. An improved checkout and modern payment options contributed to the shopping experience, while the team benefited from a more understandable administration workflow.
Infrastructure modernisation
The project included new hosting configured for Shopware. This provided a foundation for caching, performance optimisation and future growth.
The infrastructure work accompanied the software migration so that the platform could be maintained as a complete e-commerce environment.
Specialist retail requirements
Aquarium retailers have specific requirements for product presentation, stock management and customer information. Platform selection and migration planning needed to reflect those requirements rather than assume that every webshop has the same workflow.
The completed migration gave Sluierstaart & Labyrintvis Kwekerij a platform suited to those needs and a basis for further development.
